Mission Valley Cinema will host a special one-time screening of the film 3 The Hard Way tonight, Thursday June 2. The film features 3 local artists – Paul Friedrich, Sean Kernick and George Le Chevallier. The documentary depicts the creation of these works and the artists’ journey.
The idea was simple. Each artist started with three to six pieces of their own work which they exchanged and then added their own artistic touches. They collaborated to create 14 canvases and 15 drawings. One might wonder how these pieces of art turned out with such different perspectives, techniques and styles. The cohesion of these pieces is the beauty of art in itself. The styles of the artists, including a cartoonist, a graffiti artist, and a multi-media painter, are anything but dull and the finished works convey a blend of talents. The screening will benefit the film’s director, Robert King, who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. After undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, the tumor still did not shrink. The money is being raised to find a cure. Admission is $7 and after the viewing there will be Q&A session with the director, as well as the three artists appearing in the film.
